The seven people in the small conference room were punchy, having spent the last two days in intense, far-ranging discussions. Now, it was nearing 9 p.m. The beer bottles scattered around the congealing remnants of two pizzas outnumbered the remaining people two to one; earnest exchanges had given way to giggles. And another full day loomed.

It was not a university cram session, but one of the more exciting international choreographic projects to develop in recent years: the Springdance Dialogue, visiting Dance Theater Workshop this month.
